It looks like the rumored new high-end flip phone from Samsung, codenamed “Veyron” might be making an official appearance soon. That’s because the clamshell device, referred to as SM-W2017 has been spotted at Geekbench last week and now it has made an appearance at the AnTuTu benchmark site as well. We’ve managed to learn more about the specs from these sites, even as no confirmation yet about its existence has come from the Korean OEM.
So this is what we know so far, based on its appearance on the two sites mentioned. The flip phone has a 4.2-inch 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution display and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor. It also has a 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage, which should make those memory hoggers pretty happy. Camera-wise, it will have a 12MP main shooter and a 5MP front-facing one, just like with the current Samsung flagships.
Earlier rumors put the clamshell device as having the same glass-and-metal build as the Galaxy S7, although it is not sure if it will be able to maintain the water and dust resistance as well, given the different structure of the “Veyron”. The specs itself show that this will not just be any other mid-tier device, so expect as well that the price will reflect its high-end quality.
What we’re not sure though is if it will be released outside of China, where the previous version of this high-end clamshell phone was previously released. Given also that there isn’t much demand for flip phones outside of that region, you might have to go to China or ask someone to buy it for you if you really want one.
