For regular Walgreens customers, probably one of the best things about regularly going to the second biggest pharmaceutical chain in the US, aside from getting the medicine and other stuff that you need, is earning rewards points. And one thing we’re sure of is that we love getting rewards for shopping. Now you will be able to integrate your Balance Rewards account with Android Pay on your smartphone so that purchasing and earning points is pretty seamless, even when you don’t have your card with you.
There are over 85 million active Balance Rewards members, and while not all of them will probably have a smartphone that’s compatible with Android Pay, those that do will be able to enjoy earning and using those loyalty points inside the store with just a tap of their phones. Once you’ve downloaded and installed the Android Pay app on your device, simply add your Walgreens Balance Rewards information to the app.
Before you pay at the cashier, hold your Android device near the PIN pad until it recognizes your correct rewards information. Then after your purchases have been rung up, hold your device again near the pad to make your payment and collect your points. So even if you forgot your card at home, the rewards points will not go to waste. You will be able to use Android Pay in the more than 8,000 stores they have nationwide.
Walgreens is actually the first retailer to integrate their loyalty program with Android Pay. This is one of the moves that Google is doing to have the mobile payment gateway have the leg up on their competitors. Let’s see which other stores or brands will follow suit. Android Pay can be used by smartphones that are on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and have NFC support.
