If you are now the proud owner of the newly-released Samsung Galaxy Note 7, then you know that your screen is encased in Gorilla Glass 5, supposedly one of the strongest among its kind. You’ve also probably seen the drop tests and even knife and hammer tests to show that it is instead strong enough to withstand being dropped and hit repeatedly. But in case you do get a broken screen, you have to be prepared to fork up around $270 to get it fully repaired.
According to the Samsung support team, that’s what it would cost to have it repaired, same as the Galaxy S7 edge. This may mean that this is the ballpark figure to have dual edge screen devices repaired and replaced eventually. What they do promise is that it will be fully restored to all its full specification, a 5.7-inch 1440 x 2560 pixel display with Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen. Plus, it will be with the Gorilla Glass 5 protection again, and it will still have its waterproof chassis as well.
However, if you feel like you might get it cracked again, then you probably should enroll it in the Samsung Protection Plus program. It will cost you $129 for two accidental damages over two years since you bought the device. There will also be a $79 deductible for each incident. So really, if you damage your Note 7 the first time, it’s still $60 cheaper than paying the outright damage fee to have it replaced.
If you feel like you’re careful enough with your devices and you trust the power of the Corning Gorilla Glass 5, then you don’t need to enroll it in Protection Plus. You just hope for the best you never have to fork up that $270 just in case things go awry.
