Google just recently launched their new app called Duo, a one-to-one video calling app that you can use regardless of what platform you’re on. It seems like a pretty good app, with a fast and efficient interface which makes it fairly easy to use. But some people are of course not satisfied and are looking to have an option wherein you make audio-only calls. Well, Google has all but confirmed that his feature will be coming soon to the app.
While there is no official announcement yet that Duo will actually support voice-only calls, Google’s product lead for communication, Amit Fulay, mentioned something on his Google+ page. When asked if there is any way to make an audio only call through the app, he said that is “coming soon”. That is the only question/comment he responded to (well, aside from assuring one user that Duo is now available globally, so that includes Portugal) so we assume that means something.
The arrival of the Duo app for its video calls, and another Google product, Allo, for its instant messages, is just in time as Hangouts will be retooled to the needs of business users. This will leave a hole in Google’s product line, so both Duo and Allo can fill that space. That is why the addition of the audio-only calls will be a much needed feature.
Of course there are no details yet as to when that would be available. But for now, if you haven’t yet, you can download Duo from the Google Play Store for free and enjoy one-to-one video conversations.
