If you need further evidence that Google may either be doing away with Google+ or changing its very nature, we have another piece of the puzzle available. The tech giant has now announced that one of the features in the “social network,” Hangouts On Air will now only be available on YouTube Live and not on Google+ anymore. Not that a lot of people will be heartbroken over this (unless you’re really a Google+ advocate) but it’s again proof how their attitude has changed towards Google+.
The big move will begin on September 12. By then, you won’t be able to set up Hangouts on Air, a sort of predecessor of the Facebook Lives and Periscopes that are pretty popular right now. So if you’re planning to schedule any of those live Hangouts, you won’t go to Google+ anymore but to YouTube Live. And if you have previously scheduled Hangouts on Air before this was even announced, then you would have to move them to YouTube Live if the event is happening after September 12.
Of course the next question would be how to do it on YouTube Live. Go to the Live Streaming Events section in Creator Studio and then of course, choose “New live event”. Then select the Quick option, using Google Hangouts On Air. Then of course you’d like to put in the titled for your event and then choose to go live already or schedule it for a future date. Then you’’ll be able to use Hangouts to broadcast live.
You have three options in terms of accessibility, just like with YouTube. You can choose public, unlisted (can be joined by those who have the link) or private, where only you and those you invite can view it. We have to wait and see what really is Google’s plan for Google+, especially after this and the fact that your’e not required to have an account to be able to post reviews on the Google Play Store.
