Look at any list of most traffic congested cities in Asia and you’ll probably find Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta, on that list. It’s not surprising since an estimated 1.38 million people commute into the city daily. If you’re new to the area or visiting or would like to get to your destination faster, Google Transit and Google Maps would like to help you as they have now added real-time bus information for Jakarta. It should now be a bit easier to plan your trips or commute around the Southeast Asian city.
Google has actually teamed up with Transjakarta so the routes and schedules for corridors 1 through 12 will be available for users on both Google Transit and Google Maps itself. Just type in which location you’re coming from and where you’re going to and it should tell you which bus you should ride on. It will also tell you what time the next bus is arriving at your stop and also how long it would take you to get to your destination. Even the delays in the bus schedules will be updated real time.
If you’re using Google Maps to access this transit information, you will also be able to compare other public transportation that you can also take to get to your destination faster. You might have to mix two or more kinds, but if your goal is to get there as soon as you can, then you wouldn’t mind.
Google plans to add even more cities and more routes to the places where there is already real-time transit information. It would help a lot if the country or city has an efficient transportation system of course. Now let’s wait and see which city will be next.
