If you’ve been using your Verizon data to upload or download huge files onto the cloud or from torrent sites and your contract with them is fast running out, you might want to curb your usage starting now. The carrier has announced that they will be notifying those users that are using “an extraordinary amount of data” every month, warning them that they will be disconnected from the service. They do have an option to switch to the new The Verizon Plan if they still want to stay with the carrier.

A Verizon executive said that they will be flagging those who are exceeding 100GB of usage every month, which is their largest plan. They will begin notfiying those who have been flagged through a mailer and also through their bill messages. They will be given options on what to do if they want to “repent” and still stay with their carrier. Basically, the only choice you have is to shift to The Verizon Plan and choose from one of their new tiered packages.

All of the plans have unlimited talk and text, unlimited international messaging from the US and 5GB of Verizon Cloud storage. What’s different from each of the tiers is the shareable mobile data, which ranges from 1GB (for the S package which is $30) to 18GB (for the XXL at $100). You will have until August 31 to decide whether or not to switch to the plan or forever hold your peace (and move to another carrier).

If you do decide that you don’t like any of these new plans they’re offering, your line will of course be disconnected. But you have 50 days leeway in case you change your mind and you can reactivate your account. But of course to do that, you would need to switch over to one of The Verizon Plans (S, M, X, XL, XXL). If you’re one of the flagged users, you should get your notice anytime soon as they have already started rolling it out by July 21.

  1. Can’t say I blame them, although they did give the offer I’m sure that didn’t expect people to actually go beyond 100GB. That’s a wicked amount.
