Android Auto has been around for a bit of time now, and we’re still not seeing it blow up like a very essential technology. Some of that is because Android Auto can obviously just be used if you are an Android device user and more importantly, if your car is new enough to handle the software. Car manufacturers have also been relatively slow in pushing it out to their models, but KIA is making up for it right now.

KIA, the Korean car manufacturer, is pushing out Android Auto (and Apple’s CarPlay) to more of its car models. According to their announcement, the following models are now eligible for the software update – the 2017 Forte, the 2015-2016 Optima, the 2015-2016 Optima Hybrid, the 2015-2016 Sedona), the 2014 up to the 2016 models of the Kia Soul, the 2015-2016 Kia Soul EV, the 2016 Sorento, and the 2017 Sportage.

Customers who own these models will be notified via email by end of July for their eligibility to the update. These owners will need to then go to myuvo.com for vehicle eligibility and the step-by-step instructions on updating their vehicle with the latest downloadable software. Of course, this only happens if the car owners registered their vehicle at myuvo.com, KIA’s car owners’ portal.

Android Auto will allow car owners to connect their Android device to the car infotainment system and allow them access to apps and functions, such as voice-guided Google Map navigation, hands-free calls and texts and voice recognition. If you are one of the owners of the listed models above, this should be a boon to your driving experience.

  1. The Android Auto update through UVO blew my factory navigation system away. My service department and I have been in contact with KIa with No Luck. Even when the software updates and service attemps to download the Nav we get a code error that the Nav is not compatible with the system.
