For companies that have a Bring Your Own Device or Corporate-Owned Personally Enabled policies, maintaining the security of your device and ensuring that none of your work life gets entangled in your personal life can be a challenge. Google created the Android for Work profiles which separates your apps and data from your personal account, allowing you to maintain a sort of wall in between the two, since you use just one smartphone for both. But ultimately, you still need something else to “harden” this and that’s where Samsung Knox comes in.
Basically, it is a defense-grade mobile enterprise security platform that is built into the newer Samsung devices. It adds hardware level security mechanisms to complement the software level protection provided by Android. Knox actually starts functioning the moment you open your smartphone as it protects you from external attacks, malicious codes or applications, and deviations from a trusted baseline. It will also be able to protect devices from device rooting, which a lot of Android users like to do but employers would like to prevent.
While working in tandem with Google as they take care of the software side of things, Samsung also offers Knox Workspace for enterprises that need even more security and management control over their employees’ BYOD or COPE devices. The extent of the security and management capabilities of this is that it has received the most number of government security accreditations and industry awards in the market.
The Android for Work complement by Knox and Knox Workspace is available for Samsung devices running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. This includes the two new flagship devices, the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge.
