When you’re on vacation or on leave from the office, you probably resist the urge to check your email every few hours or so (well, if you’re a workaholic like us). But good thing there is such a thing as vacation auto-responders so people will know not to bug you for a certain period of time. For some reason though, Inbox by Gmail doesn’t have that built-in within the app. But the folks over at XDA have discovered that they will have this soon in their teardown of the Inbox app.
Of course since Inbox is basically just an extension of your Gmail, you actually have that vacation auto-responder if you enable it on your Gmail settings. But the upcoming update for Inbox actually has a vacation responder within the app itself and you can set it up without having to go to your Gmail. You will be able to compose a customized email message and they probably have custom responses as well. It will be sent either to all your contacts or to those who will be emailing you within the time-frame that you will specify.
Of course all of this information is not yet live (unless you’re one of the chosen few that Google is testing this out on). But based on the comparison of the Gmail APK and the Inbox APK, it will look almost the same as the auto-response options in the Gmail app itself. So if your only reason for having both the Gmail and Inbox app on your is that the latter doesn’t have auto-responders built-in, the update will now be able to help you let go of the Gmail app.
Inbox version 1.27 has started rolling out to selected users so if it hasn’t reached you yet, just be patient as eventually it will come to you.
