Even when we think we have it perfect with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 – which honestly is everything in a chipset a phone could ask for – Qualcomm improves on their flagship and announces the Snapdragon 821. Just when we think we couldn’t possibly ask for better – the world’s mobile chipset leader is giving us faster, speedier, and more efficient.
The Snapdragon 821 will feature better speed as its top offering, now giving us for Kryo processor cores clocked up to 2.4 GHz where the SD820 offered quad-core goodness of just up to 1.6 GHz. Effectively, that’s almost a 1GHz bump of raw processing power – if ever you experience any lag at all with your SD820, that will be almost nil in the SD821.
But it’s not just raw power, Qualcomm is also giving us better power efficiency. In a world where all smartphones are striving to lower power usage so they could be on for a longer amount of time, better power management might even be the better feature than the bump in power for the SD821.
That’s about all the details we have for the SD821 for now, but expect more details to come out as manufacturers start announcing which phones will get this new beast of a processor. Something tells us that the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 might be in line to have this first. What do you think?
