For those people who don’t know who Bjork is, well, we pity you. This Icelandic singer-songwriter has, over a career that has spanned 30 years, put out an eclectic collection of music that ranges from electronica to pop, from classical music to experimental and trip-hop – and the music world has generally loved her for all of these. These days, she is willing to break new ground again in her career by launching a full virtual reality (VR) album.
The “album” is actually a collection of VR music videos for her 2015 record called “Vulnicura”, and it premiered in Sydney, Australia at the Vivid Festival. To promote these videos, the artist will embark on an 18-month digital world tour. At the launch, her fans were treated to different VR takes on the different tracks of Vulnicura. These virtual reality videos and the technology at the event and were powered by HTC and the HTC Vive VR platform. Bjork herself was the DJ at her launch event.
This is not the first time the artist has dabbled in VR technology. At the end of 2015, Bjork released an app that allowed fans to view her 3D video for “Stonemilker”. It looks like she has taken that idea and expanded it for this new collection of videos. Check out the traditional video below, detailing the shots in that earlier VR effort.
The new album will be viewable on standard VR platforms such as the HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift, and even on the Samsung Gear VR. If your VR headset is able to view YouTube VR then you should be good to go for this new Bjork album.
