Sometimes, there are gadgets that you would like to have in your life, not because they serve an all-important purpose, but just because they seem so cool. Well, the Samsung Gear 360 camera hopes it can be both. While it is pretty cool to be able to capture all 360 degrees of the moment you’re recording, what do you really need it for? Well, if you like documenting activities and life events, or if you’re a blogger or lifestyle reporter, then that seems to be pretty important.
A couple of videos released by Samsung shows the various ways that you can incorporate the Gear 360 into your life. Because it comes with a universal tripod hole, this means you can stick the camera almost anywhere. The video shows a couple on a camping trip and how they were able to use the Gear 360 in almost all aspects, by attaching it to a selfie stick, a drone, helmet mounts, on their bicycle, on a car mount, on the guitar clamp, on a tripod, etc. We see them using the Gear 360 and it looks nice and all, but you’re probably not feeling the impact just yet.

The second video then shows what the actual videos from the Gear 360 cam look like. You can view it with your Gear VR if you have one, or just on your mobile device and your PC. This time around you’ll be amazed at what the cam has been able to capture, particularly when they mounted it on a drone and you were able to see the sky and the ground and everything in between. The Gear 360 cam on a helmet mount while they were zip lining is also pretty amazing.
The Samsung Gear 360 cam has front and rear lenses that capture 180 degrees horizontally and vertically as well so that you get a seamless 360-degree field of view. Videos are recorded in 3840 x 1920 and photos in 25.9MP. It’s still unknown when it will be released in the US and how much it will cost (in Korea, it was around $340) but judging by these videos, it will be announced soon.
