Virtual Reality is here to make a statement and hopefully, it is here to stay. Well, until another new, more awesome video tech comes along of course. But for those who are still trying to grasp this one, if you like music, then Rhapsody has a treat for you. They are probably the first music streaming service to offer its users a new VR app that will put you right in the middle of a performance of up and coming artists.

Rhapsody VR has been unveiled and if you love the live music experience, you better get a Google Cardboard if you don’t have one yet. Once you put on your VR headset, drop your Android phone in the VR slot and fire up the app, you will not just be in the middle of a moshpit, but you’ll actually be on stage with the artists as they perform. You won’t even have to pay for a ticket or buy drinks or spend anything really, except buying the headset which will not set you back that much anyway (if you’re getting a Cardboard.

For the initial videos, you will get performances from Talib Kweli and new artist Flatbush Zombies. There are several more indie artists’ performances available like The Blind Shake, Low Cut Connie, Big Ups, Eli “Paperboy” Reed, Sweet Spirit and Shannon and The Clams. They will be adding more content every month and if you’re the musically adventurous type, you will discover new artists through this app too. But if you like your pop music, we might have to wait a while to get popular artists into this service.

The good news is that even if you don’t have a VR headset, you can still enjoy the 360 degree video experience through your smartphone. It won’t be as awesome as when you view it on a Google Cardboard, but it’s still better than nothing. You can download Rhapsody VR for free from the Google Play Store.
