It’s been almost a year since NVIDIA launched the NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV Console, powered by its own Tegra X1 processor and 256-core Maxwell GPU. Since then, nothing in the Android world has quite come close to the NVIDIA SHIELD in terms of pure brute processing power and graphics capability. And NVIDIA has been quite prompt with the software updates to the console, recently bringing it up to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Now we get a new update, bringing a lot of 4K goodness to the powerful console.

With the SHIELD Experience Upgrade 3.2, the highlight is that it will bring the VUDU app to the NVIDIA SHIELD console. VUDU is a popular pay-per-use app that features a large library of movies and TV shows in 4K resolution. The great thing about this app is that you pay only for the shows you do watch, without the need to pay a monthly subscription fee. Other new apps in this update include Spotify, WatchESPN, Disney Channel, Disney Junior, CNN Go, and Comedy Central.

Also, this update will now allow you to watch Youtube in 4K resolution, but now in buttery smooth 60 frames per second. Talk about a significant upgrade. The update also brings in-app voice search for Netflix, including HDR support for jaw-dropping visuals with respect to color and contrast. Again, HDR support here is a first for Android TV consoles.

If you’re waiting for Android N to finally roll out to the NVIDIA SHIELD console, it might not take as long as Marshmallow did. Android N has been completely validated for the said console, so it might just be a matter of months before we see the NVIDIA SHIELD console rocking Android N.
