Samsung’s flagship devices, the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge came with this small but interesting accessory called the On-the-Go Adapter that looks like your normal USB connector. But as Samsung explains, it’s not just your normal adapter as it can enhance your use of your mobile device as it will help you transfer files easily, connect with wired and wireless keyboards, use flash drives on your smartphone and even give your phone a battery boost if needed.
Normally, when you buy a new phone, in order to transfer files to it, you’d have to download the ones from your own phone to your computer and then upload them to your new one through a software of sorts. If you use the OTG Adapter, you can simply connect your Galaxy S7 or S7 edge to your old phone and use the Smart Switch app to transfer to choose which files to transfer. You can also transfer files from your flash drive to your smartphone by connecting it to the adapter.
You can also use the OTG Adapter to connect your smartphone to a keyboard, for those times when it’s easier to use a keyboard than typing on your virtual keyboard on your phone. You can connect with a wired keyboard by physically attaching it to the adapter. If it’s a wireless keyboard, connect the receiver to the adapter and the phone will then recognize the keyboard.
If your phone is running low on battery and you have another device that has more juice (or you have a friend willing to part with their power), you can also use the adapter to connect the two devices to boost you up. Right now, there is no separate On-The-Go Adapter that you can officially buy from the Samsung store, but if you look hard enough, you probably can find it somewhere.
