It’s not enough for Google Photos to just give you the ability to share photos and entire albums with your loved ones. It now wants everyone to be more “social” about it. The latest update to the app, version 1.20, is giving you the ability to comment on the photos that have been shared to you through the app, as well as smart suggestions for adding more photos to albums shared to you, if there are any.
Even though you’ve already updated your app, the commenting feature is still turned off by default. But once you’ve turned it on, you will see a button at the footer of the photo or album where you can now add your comment. You have the option to delete the comment later on, but not to edit it. There is also a feature where you can report the comment for abuse, in case something gets out of hand.
Another new feature with this update is smart suggestions. When someone shares an album with you, for example, your best friend’s birthday party. The app detects which photos on your collection should be added to that album and suggests it to you. You can add it with just one tap, or choose not to add it for some reason. The changelog also indicates that there are device folder improvements.
Version 1.20 of Google Photos is now rolling out to Android devices, so just wait for it to reach you or manually check for updates.
