When a celebrity creates an app, more often than not, it seems like a vanity project where they just promote themselves or their “brand”. But comedic actor and author BJ Novak was able to create something that is actually beyond himself and taps more into this deep-seated need for people to always make and read lists. The List App was a huge hit in the iOS world, and now it is making its way to Android devices and also being rebranded as li.st.
If you’ve been using The List App previously, nothing has really changed now that it’s called li.st. It’s still a platform wherein you can create your own lists for any topic that you want, like “7 ways to clean your house without sweating” or “10 celebrities you’d like to invite to your next house party”. You can also read lists created by other people, from celebrities like Lena Dunham and Mindy Kaling, to publishers like The New York Times, TED, The Onion, to ordinary people who create helpful, entertaining, or thought-provoking lists.
Now that it’s available on the Google Play Store, you can enjoy browsing through and creating your own lists on your Android smartphone or tablet. You can include photos, GIFs, locations in your list, so that your “5 best places to get free Wi-Fi in New York” can actually point people to where these places are. The app can also point you to people or lists you might be interested in so you can follow them as well.
You can download li.st from the Google Play Store for free. A word of warning though: just like your iOs counterparts, you might get lost in the blackhole of reading list after list after list so proceed with caution.
