Even as Chinese brands like Huawei and Xiaomi and other little-known but affordable OEMs keep churning out entry level and mid-tier devices, Android giant Samsung isn’t giving up on that segment as well. One of their newer offerings is Galaxy J3 (2016) and now it’s available in Verizon’s 4G LTE network as a prepaid device. The target market for this phone is for those looking to upgrade from an even more basic smartphone but doesn’t want to go into a more complicated device.
The Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016) has a 5-inch HD Super AMOLED display and is powered by a 1.2GHz Quad Core processor. It has 8GB of internal memory but it can be expanded to 128GB through a microSD card. In terms of cameras, it will not blow anyone’s mind away, but if you just aim to simply capture memories without all the complicated features and buttons, then the 5MP main cam and the 2MP front-facing one should be enough and can even capture decent photos in low light.
The phone has an Easy Mode where everything basic that you need is just a tap away. It really is a recommended device for those who don’t want all the bells and whistles of the more feature-packed high-end phones we have in the market. It has a 2600mAh battery which should be enough unless you’re a super heavy user. It also comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box, which is more than we can say for the other more expensive devices that previously came out.
Verizon has several prepaid options for those looking to get the Galaxy J3 (2016). For $60 per month, you get 3GB of data and unlimited text and calls. If you just need 1GB of data, you can pay $45 per month and if you don’t even need any data (WiFi access only), just pay $30 per month for unlimited text and calls. Of course since it’s prepaid, no annual contacts and hidden charges here.
