MobileIron and NitroDesk have announced a new application for corporate Android users in markets where securing communication through email is regulated and required. The new email solution is called TouchDown for MobileIron and it is aimed at business users in the financial, healthcare, and pharmaceutical fields among others. The app allows the deployment and remote management of secure email on Android devices.

Touchdown is an Exchange ActiveSync solution that has 250,000 users and is now on the Android platform. The features of the service include copy and paste restrictions that can be set by IT administrators to prevent data from a corporate email from being put into other apps.

The app encrypts all email and PIM data with 3DES or AES encryption. The app also uses certificate-based identity to authenticate the Touchdown client to the corporate mail environment. The administrator can also selectively wipe email and PIM without affecting the operation of other parts of the device. TouchDown for MobileIron is on the Android Market right now.
