For the selfie-addicted person, probably one major consideration they have when getting a new device is how good is the front-facing camera of the smartphone. And by now, most probably already know that it’s not just in the pixels. You may have a 20MP selfie camera and yet it still won’t give you the quality you’re looking for. The newly announced HTC 10 claims that it is the only smartphone that has an “ultra selfie” feature, and their newest TVC shows it off in true selfie fashion.
The 30 seconder ad, called 24 Hour Selfie, is obviously made out of selfies (thankfully in a time lapse and not literally 24 hours) by a guy who can’t stop taking photos of himself while just going through his daily life, which looks pretty exciting. Well, at least based on the selfies he’s taking and posting. So what makes the HTC 10’s front facing camera the “Ultra Selfie Camera” device? It may have just a 5MP shooter, but what makes it really “ultra” is the optical image stabilisation feature.
It’s not the first camera of course to have OIS, as a lot of smartphones have this on their main cameras. But the HTC 10 is the first to have an “optically stabilised front sensor”. So it takes great pictures even if you’re in low lighting environments and removes some of the jitter that you experience when recording video or taking video calls.
Now I don’t know if the quality of selfies that you will take with the HTC 10 will match that of the guy in the TVC. But what the OEM is saying is that you can actually do it. At least when their new flagship device arrives as shipping starts this week already.
