While there are several more popular note-taking apps out there like Evernote, Google Keep, Simplenote, etc, Microsoft’s OneNote has also been consistently mentioned when it comes to the best among the available ones in the market. With the latest update to the app, new users will be able to use the Android app even without signing up or in to their Microsoft account. It may be a minor update, but that is still significant in terms of getting new people to start using the service and the app.
Previously, you needed to sign in to your Microsoft account, or if you didn’t have one, you needed to sign up for it, to be able to use OneNote. This is of course so you’ll be able to sync the notes you’ve created on your smartphone to wherever else you access the service. But now on version 15.1.6821.4825, you won’t need to sign in or sign up and you’ll just be able to use the app directly.
The main reason for this of course is that they want to encourage new users to try the app already and explore its features. And OneNote really has so many features, like support for handwritten notes, voice notes, adding pictures from your camera roll, sharing and collaborating with officemates and teammates, etc.
If you’ve never tried OneNote before, you can now do so by downloading the app from the Google Play Store and then use it directly. But if you do want to sync your notes across devices, then you’d have to sign up or sign in.
