Mobile payment gateways still haven’t hit the stride that most OEMs have been expecting, for one reason or another. Android Pay should become more prevalent as more devices get the NFC (Near Field Communication) feature, but for now, it is only available to a limited number of devices that have already been updated. But if you’re one of the lucky few and you’re a Verizon subscriber, then you better start using Android Pay as you will get 2GB of free wireless data when you use it to pay for purchases.
When you use your Android Pay to make purchases at any of the 1.5 million and growing stores all over the US, you will get an extra 1GB wireless data from your carrier, Verizon. By the third time that you’ll use it, you will get the additional 1GB data as promised. You will be able to use Android Pay in such shops like Macy’s, Peet’s Coffee, Subway, Trader Joes, Walgreens, Whole Foods, etc. Using it is pretty simple. Unlock your device, place it near a terminal, and your payment will then be accepted and processed.
You will be able to avail this promo until June 14 and you can redeem your free data only until July 13, both for this year. Only Verizon customers who are postpaid subscribers to the Verizon Plan or More Everything Plan will be able to avail of the promo. Android Pay also only works with devices running on KitKat and higher, so you might want to upgrade your device to something higher (and with NFC) if you don’t meet that criteria.
A lot of the stores that have Android Pay are also offering discounts and deals to entice users to use the payment platform. And with 39% of mobile payment users already using their mobile device to make POS purchases, then Android Pay should become more popular in the next few months.
