We’ve featured the Android N Developer Preview 2 yesterday, where we also gave you a link of where to download factory images. Flashing a factory image manually means you don’t get OTA updates to Developer Preview milestone builds thereafter. But if you’re part of the Android beta program and you have a compatible device, AND you just can’t wait for the OTA notification to get to you – you can actually download an OTA image and flash it manually.
An OTA image is what your device usually downloads on an OTA update, only, you’re going to apply it manually, since you don’t have patience to wait for the notification (haha!). You can download an OTA image for your specific device from the download link below. Make sure that your device is either a Nexus 6P, Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 9, Nexus 9G, a Nexus Player, a Pixel C, or an Android One device which is already running the Android N Developer Preview off the beta program.
Instructions for installing the update are also given below. It includes booting to recovery mode, selecting “ADB sideload” from the stock recovery console, then hooking your device up to a PC and running the update command via ADB console. Make sure to follow the instructions correctly.
Downloads are generally around 1GB or more, so it will take a bit of a download before you can start manually flashing the OTA update. Have a little patience, ok?
