When all of your friends have been kidnapped and you’re the only hope left to rescue them, would you be brave enough to embark on a dangerous adventure and become their hero? At least, you won’t have to do it in real life (at least we hope not), just digitally in this new game out on Android called Toby: The Secret Mine. The 2D platformer was heavily inspired by another game called Limbo, as both deal in a world of silhouettes and shadows.
The story begins in a small, peaceful village that is suddenly engulfed in chaos when someone starts kidnapping its residents. Whenever someone would try to rescue them, the rescuers themselves would not come back. Enter Little Toby, one of those left behind, and it is his persona that you will take on when you play the game. You go through a journey that takes you deep into the forest where you need to get past the dangerous situations and solve all the difficult puzzles you encounter.
Even though the game heavily uses silhouettes, there is also a bit of color thrown in there (unlike Limbo that was all black and white). The environments are beautifully handcrafted and the puzzles themselves are extremely challenging, pushing you to solve them for the sake of your virtual friends.
You can download Toby: The Secret Mine from the Google Play Store for $4.99. There are no more in-app purchases after that one-time payment, so the price tag should be worth it.
