The past years may have been not so kind to Samsung in terms of sales, but at least in terms of popularity among Antutu users globally, then they still have what it takes. In the first quarter report released by the benchmarking site, it seems that Samsung smartphones are still the five most popular in the world and still holds top spot in countries like Taiwan, HongKong, Korea, and the US. But when it comes to two of the biggest markets in the world, they failed to crack the Top 10.

The data from this published review comes from Antutu users themselves and has been analyzed by Antutu Labs. In terms of global numbers, the five most popular are all from Samsung, while Chinese brands RedMi (2), Meizu, and LETV are also part of the top 10. One phone from Korean brand LG is also part of the list. It’s worth noting that the recently released flagship from Samsung is already part of the list while LG’s 2014 flagship still made the list.

In the most popular devices per country, it’s not a surprise that in China, all the smartphones are from local brands, with Xiaomi and Meizu being the dominant brands. The Huawei Mate8 and the LETV 1S managed to break the dichotomy of the two brands. The Indian market is also dominated by Chinese brands, with just a couple of local ones cracking the top 10.

In the US, it is almost a two-way race between Samsung (6 smartphones) and Google (3 smartphones). But surprisingly, the only Chinese brand that managed to squeeze into the list is OnePlus One. It would be interesting to see the results for the 2nd quarter and if it will still be the status quo by then.

  1. I wonder though how many devices out there still cheat on benchmarks, and handle them differently than normal apps.
