This is me asking for all of you all’s forgiveness for skipping the GOTW column last week. It’s a bit difficult to take, you know, when you realize that you are not Superman and sometimes you need a bit of rest. But allow me to make it up to you guys with a list of three new RPGs that you can try out straight from the Google Play Store.
Tales of LINK
Tales of LINK is a very popular action RPG in Japan, and it’s good that Bandai Namco is allowing the world to experience it. Expect to do grinding and battling to level your character up, follow the storyline, and get awesome items. But the twist here is the intuitive “touch-link battle system” which links characters to perform devastating skill-based combos. We’re actually interested to know if Bandai Namco did something new with the battle systems we’ve all known from hundreds of other RPGs we’ve played. The game is available for download free, with IAPs.

Evilbane: Rise of Ravens
We don’t know how much darker you can get with an RPG whose title is Evilbane: Rise of Ravens. That should set the tone for this new action RPG from Netmarble. The storyline tells of a great new evil that threatens the peace of the kingdom, and Ravens are task to protect the kingdom and keep the peace. Players will assume the role of one of these Ravens, and will hack and slash their way through the minions of darkness. If this is your type of RPG (hack ‘n slash, oh yeah!), you can pick this up at the link below. The game is free to play, with the usual IAPs.

Elio
When we realized that this new game was from Kemco, we automatically thought “ok, another retro RPG”. But Elio is not one of those. It feels like Kemco is finally trying something new – Elio is a hybrid RPG with kingdom building, dungeon crawling, with a lot of RPG mechanics. Players will be putting a group of heroes together before setting off to work your way through dungeons in order to score loot, better gear, and so on.
