When the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge came out into the market, one thing missing from it is Samsung’s very own proprietary music app which plays the music that’s stored locally on your device. Apparently, it was now available on the Google Play Store and if you still wanted it, you could still download and install it. But it was only in beta and it was for the two new flagships only. Now, it is also compatible with last year’s flagship, the Galaxy S6 and the newest phablet, the Galaxy Note 5.
Also, the other big thing about it is that it now seems to be out of beta, because the label beta isn’t there anymore. It actually didn’t make much sense for it to be in beta before because there was nothing new about the app. It played music just like the built-in music player app in earlier Samsung devices, but now it has a better interface. The changelog also mentions that it had minor bug fixes, so there’s nothing significantly new about it.
Having proprietary apps on the Google Play Store has been a growing trend for a lot of OEMs now, and Samsung has almost all of its apps available for download there. One major reason for this is that it is easier to update the apps since everything can be streamlined through GPS and you don’t have to have a system update every time you need to update one of the apps.
The update can also be found on the Galaxy Apps store, although you may need to be on Android 6.0 Marshmallow for it to work properly. So if you have a Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 5, try out the Music Player app from the Google Play Store and see if there’s any difference from the previous version.

It’s basically the same app that’s always been on my Note 5. And you’ve never had to have a system update to get updates of Samsung Apps – you get them through the Galaxy Apps store. I’m not sure where you got that information.
