If you want to be able to watch your favorite videos or view your picture slideshow on a larger device, then you’re probably looking into getting a streaming stick anytime now. Well, Roku has just announced a new version of its Streaming Stick, and they claim that it is 8x more powerful than the original version and it is smaller and much handier to bring about with you so you can at the drop of a hat stream whatever you want on a TV screen, as long as it has HDMI connectivity.
What makes this device faster is that it now has a quad-core processor, which should make streaming videos smoother and also have a pretty responsive navigator. Roku also says that this is more powerful than their competitors like the Google Chromecast and Amazon Fire TV stick. It also has dual-band MIMO wireless so connectivity should be faster as well. It also comes with a remote control that should make navigation and control of what you see on your TV screen easier. The stick will also come with the latest version of the Roku OS 7.1, which should make searching and discovering much easier across all the streaming services that you use.
Another new feature in this new Roku Streaming Stick is Private Listening through the Roku Mobile app. You will be able to use your app to listen to the streamed entertainment when you’re wearing wired or wireless headphones. The Play On Roku feature on the app will also let you stream your personal videos, music, and photos to the TV through the stick. To be able to enjoy these features, you need to update the Roku app to the latest version.
The Roku Streaming Stick will cost you $49.99 and you can already pre-order it through roku.com and BestBuy.com. Later this month, you’ll be able to buy it through retail stores like Best Buy, Walmart, etc.
