If you’re driving in a busy city, you’ve probably been using crowd-sourced navigation apps to figure your way around, especially during rush hours. But a new app called INRIX Traffic says it can give you more as it will be using machine learning to figure out your driving habits, routines, schedules and the information from a network of connected cars and devices. It will eventually give you personalized routes, integrate your schedule into your driving flow, etc but of course you need to use it often in order to give you all those information.
The more you use the app, the more it will understand your daily routine, like where you go to work, what you do after, etc, so that it will be able to give you a daily, driver-specific itinerary. You wouldn’t need to input your home, work, other frequently gone to places as the app automatically adds these “favorite” places for you. It also will access your calendar information so that it will give you notifications when you’re supposed to leave to make it to your next appointment.
But of course INRIX cannot avoid crowd-sourced information, but instead of just relying purely on consumer input, the tech they use involves a network of 275 million connected cars and devices that may give you more accurate information as to the state of the roads and traffic in the locations you’re supposed to go to. As for the map data, it uses the OpenStreetMap (OSM) which is free and crowd-sourced, so it may not be 100% accurate, but it seems to be trusted by a lot of developers.
You can download INRIX Traffic Maps & GPS from the Google Play Store for free. It currently supports 16 countries in North America and Europe, including the US, UK, Spain, Germany, France, and Canada. It also has support for 8 languages, but it looks like they will be expanding to more countries and territories soon.
