SoundCloud has been popular with a lot of indie artists, aspiring musicians, producers, podcasters, who don’t have the might yet to be on most of the popular digital music services available or who just choose not to be on any of them. But apparently now, the service is going to go through the music subscription route as they announced the launch of SoundCloud Go, now available in the US only but soon expanding to other countries as well.
Basically, what this service brings you is an expanded catalog for both established and emerging creators, the ability to listen to tracks offline, and of course, an “uninterrupted, ad-free listening experience”. But long-time users of SoundCloud need not worry as the free service is still there for you to discover upcoming artists and upload your own works as well. But the service has signed up with both mainstream and indie labels like UMG, Sony, Merlin, Warner, etc, so you’ll get an expanded library if you sign up with SoundCloud Go.
Another huge benefit is the ability to listen to these tracks even if you don’t have WiFi or Internet connectivity. Any track you listen to will either get saved automatically, or if you choose to only save via WiFi, will be added to your offline tracks once you have the connection. Creators will also get to be discovered more through the new algorithm-fueled discovery features which should put you right beside more established artists, increasing your discoverability.
You can try out SoundCloud Go with a 30-day free trial, and if you like the service, then you can subscribe to the $9.99/month service fee. If you have a Pro Unlimited creator account, you only have to pay $4.99 on top of your regular rate, for the next 6 months at least. As we said, it’s only available in the US for now but it will soon rollout in other countries as well.
