Well, what do we have here? Do my eyes deceive me? Do we really have Geekbench readings of Samsung Galaxy S7 variants powered by MediaTek chipsets? That seems to be the case, and hell has probably frozen over. When the newest flagships were launched by the Korean gadget giant, we all knew they were going to use either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 or an Exynos 8890 chipset. Looks like Samsung isn’t finished with the Galaxy S7 just yet.

If these Geekbench numbers and data are true, then we might be seeing Samsung Galaxy S7 variants with the deca-core MediaTek Helio X20 and Helio X25. The benchmarks are for a Samsung model coded as SM-G930W. SM-G930 is the internal Samsung code for all their Samsung Galaxy S7 variants. The “W” suffix is usually for models designed for the Canadian market, but there’s no way to be sure for now.

Among the numbers, you see deca-core processors with the MT6797 and the MT6797T headings – the X20 and the X25 respectively. The numbers are pretty strong – the X25, which is basically an overclocked X20, can run toe to toe with the octa-core Exynos 8890. The X20 lags a bit. See the numbers below.

But hold up. Take your fistfuls of salt and put them in your mouth now. AnTuTu has come out saying that there is only one version of the SM-G930W, the Canadian version of the Galaxy S7, and that is powered the Exynos 8890. We’ll won’t know for sure until the variants reach market, but it would have been credit to MediaTek if this happened. We can’t discount fake versions as well, although I would not go through the whole shebang of using a Helio X25 chipset to fake something.
