One of the things that people are looking forward to having with their brand new LG G5 (well if you have one already) is the fact that you can use other accessories/modules to enhance your use of the device. One of the “friends” that you can use for your modular smartphone is the LG Cam Plus, and now you can already pre-order it on B&H Photo for $69.99. But is the accessory worth that price?

Basically, what the LG Cam Plus does is make it easier for you to take photos and videos on your LG G5. You put it in your smartphone’s battery slot and it will even give you extra 1200mAh worth of power. But in terms of photo functionality, it will give you a better grip for your phone when taking photos or videos. It also has physical buttons for the power, a dedicated one for the shutter, record, and zoom, and an LED indicator as well. To give you better control, you’ll also have autofocus and exposure lock from the module itself.

The module slot will eventually have other accessories there as well, like the Hi-Fi Audio DAC module. But the LG Cam Plus is the one of the first to soon be available in the market, so we’ll be able to gauge the public’s response to it and the whole idea of a modular smartphone soon enough.

So is the $69.99 price tag worth it? Maybe it is too expensive for what is basically a grip for your smartphone with the added bonus of a shutter button. If it were around 20 dollars cheaper, then maybe it is. But if you want to try it out for your LG G5 and you have money to spare, why not?
