It is really only a matter of time until all traditional watchmakers will release their very own smartwatches, a hybrid of their classic devices but with the functionality of wearables. The latest to unveil their own take on connected watches is Tissot. They announced at Baselworld 2016 that soon, users will be able to have the Smart-Touch, a smartwatch that is based on their acclaimed T-Touch Expert Solar but with the more advanced connectivity features of course.
The Tissot Smart-Touch is actually the first major smart watch technology investment that the Swatch Group has made, despite releasing a Bluetooth-connected device previously Touch Zero One under the Swatch brand, but that doesn’t really count as it was just a “niche connected timepiece”. However, they haven’t offered much details as to what the specs of the Smart-Touch will be, but it will most likely look like the T-Touch Expert Solar and will even be priced almost the same.
The smartwatch will be able to integrate not just with your connected smartphone but with connected peripherals as well, two in particular that Tissot seems to be pushing. The navigation features present in the T-Touch line will be further enhanced by Smart-Touch as it will support something called the Smart-Touch FindIt accessory, a fob that can be attached to moving objects or a specific place so it cam be tracked by your smartwatch. The other accessory that will be supported by the upcoming wearable is the Smart-Touch Station which is a solar-powered small weather station that will offer hyper local info like temperature, humidity, air quality, etc.
As for the other specs of the Tissot Smart-Touch, we’ll probably find out more in the next few days. The estimated retail price for the wearable is around $1,100-$1,200, not more than the T-Touch Expert Solar.
