If you have a Samsung smartphone that’s already running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and you have a lot of music locally stored in your device, then you might want to check out this “new” app available on the Google Play Store. Okay, it’s not really new because you probably have it on your device already, but it is the first time that the Samsung Music app will be available on GPS, although it is still in beta version.
You will also only be able to install the app (if you don’t have it yet for some reason) on your smartphone if you’re already on the Marshmallow update, although there is an APK floating around there somewhere, but it is not guaranteed if it will work on Lollipop and below and on non-Samsung devices. It will also only be able to play music that is locally stored on your smartphone but it does support a lot of file types, including lossless FLAC, WMA, AAC, and of course MP3.
As for what the app looks like or what its features are, there’s really nothing new to report as it is just a straightforward music player. It hides its status bar and you have your usual tabs on top, including Playlists, Tracks, Albums, Artist, etc. It says that it can also easily interact with other smart devices like tablets, wearables, TV, etc. It supports device discovery through DLNA, but no Chromecast support here though.
It is still in beta, so expect still some major changes later on. Also, since the Samsung Music app is now on the Google Play Store, then that means all updates can be streamlined here already.
I like this quite a bit. Seems more functional than the Google Play Music player.
