Whenever a current flagship gets a price cut, you can bet your dollar (or in this case, rupee) that the OEM is getting ready to announce their new major smartphone. If you live in India and you’ve been thinking of getting a a OnePlus 2, now is the perfect timing as they’ve permanently reduced the price of the smartphone from Rs. 22,999 to Rs. 20,999 for the 16GB variant and then from Rs. 24,999 to Rs. 22,999 for the 64GB one.
The price cut doesn’t necessarily mean that it is not selling as well as expected. It’s been 7 months since the new flagship was released and it looks like there’s interest and so the company thinks its time to reach a wider audience, hence the reduction in the price. The Chinese OEM also said that operations-wise, they have increased their numbers in India, and so there is more room for flexibility.
It may also indicate that OnePlus is almost ready to announce their new flagship, which may or may not be the OnePlus 3 or with a more inventive name. Sources are saying that they might be launching the new smartphone sometime in this second quarter, so that means anytime from April – June.
The OnePlus 2 has been getting good reviews since it was released last year. It has a 5.5-inch full HD display and is powered by a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 810. It has 4G RAM (which is alway a good thing), dual SIM support, USB Type-C connectivity (one of the few for now), plus a 13MP main camera (and a 5PM front one).
