Rumors had been swirling about that a 2016 edition of the Samsung Galaxy Tab A was imminent, and now it looks like the speculation has been confirmed. On the official Samsung site in Germany, we now see the new version of the tablet, and this time it’s smaller than the original one and it comes with a few slightly advanced features for those looking for a new device to browse the web, read content and watch or listen to their multimedia files.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab A (2016) has a 7-inch TFT screen with an 800 x 1280 display and is powered by a quad-core 1.3GHz CPU, an Exynos 3475 SoC and a Mali-T720 GPU. It has 1.5GB RAM, 8GB of internal storage and a miroSD card slot that can carry up to 200GB capacity. If you want to use it to take pictures or video, you might be a bit disappointed because it only has 5MP main camera and s 2MP front-facing one. But you probably will not use those, except for when video chatting with loved ons.
The tablet has a 4,000mAh battery that will supposedly last you for 9 hours if all you did was watch videos on streaming service or 100 hours if what you want to stream is music. It will have a WiFi only edition, plus another one with both WiFi and 4G LTE. Disappointingly though, it will still have Android 5.1 Lollipop instead of the Marshmallow that some newer devices are already sporting. Also, if you’re looking for the S Pen, which the previous 8-inch and 9.7-inch models had, then you won’t find them here.
There is still no official pricing not even on the Samsung website, but online retailers have said the SRP will be $188 for the WiFi only and $245 for the one with the 4G LTE. Given the relatively lower specs, the Galaxy Tab A (2016) will probably be available in emerging markets only for now. The launch date is also not yet shown on the website.
