While Google+ may not be able to overtake Facebook in terms of reach and popularity, what it seemingly wants to do is to create an alternative to those who are tired of the social network or a niche market for those who want something different. They are now introducing a new site called Create which wants to tap into the “thought leaders” who are using Google+. They’re also now releasing an update to the app, their fifth this year, which brings a few minor changes, plus bug fixes and improvements.
The Create site actually uses Google+ Collections as its platform and in order to be part of the program, you need to be creating theme and “high quality content” regularly on the social network. There is no specific focus or category for the Create site, as there is a wide array of “qualified” contributors like mountain climbers, photographers, developers, etc. Those who are part of it will be able to get sneak peeks into new features that they will be offering users before they roll it out to the rest of the network.
Meanwhile, there is also now a new update for the Google+ Android app. There aren’t that many changes in what is already the fifth update this year. They’ve rolled out what was previously in the Preview version only and that is the ability to pin posts on your profile. You can also now easily toggle on and off the display circle stream on your device.
There are also several bug fixes and accessibility issues resolved with update 7.4.0. Meanwhile, if you think you’re a creator, then be part of the Google+ Create site and you’ll even get your own profile verified.
