After all these years, Facebook is still the most popular social network. We don’t know until when it will thrive but while it’s still here, Zuckerberg needs to think of more ways to make people keep using it. The website can be too busy, no wonder why it keeps on crashing at times. Good thing the devs thought of making Facebook Lite. This lighter version of Facebook is only available for Android devices in emerging markets where Internet connection is expensive or not as reliable.
Less than a year since its launch, Facebook Lite already reached 100 million monthly active users. That’s a lot of people connecting to the social network, trying to connect with family and friends, updating people about the most random and mundane things, annoying people campaigning their beliefs, or simply stalking.
The app which has been optimized for people who live in areas with low bandwidth or slow Internet is now already available in 50 languages. Most of the countries in Europe, Latin America, Africa, and Asia use Facebook Lite instead of the main FB app. Some of the biggest markets include India, Mexico, Brazil, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
Facebook also shared some important highlights and statistics in India where it’s very popular. There are about 69 million users in the country who check their accounts everyday while there are about 142 million monthly active users. Of the number, 133 million use the mobile app monthly and 64 million daily. In a more global scale, there are already 1.6 billion people using Facebook.
