If you’ve been hankering for a little 80s nostalgia, then look no further than the newest ad from Android for their “be together, not the same” marketing campaign. Bringing back a little Brat Pack atmosphere for this generation, the three usual rivals team up to defeat bullies and become friends, and then later on have a bit of Oscar fun while giving a tiny, tiny hint as to the next major Android update expected later this year.
The one minute or so ad shows the paper being rescued by the scissors, and then later on, the paper rescuing the rock from his own set of bullies. This can actually be a good side anti-bullying campaign for Google, come to think of it. In this case, fighting against bullies apparently.
And since today is the annual Oscars, Android had to get in on the action by releasing a 15 second video on Twitter, showing the three accepting an “award” and thanking everyone. And of course reminding us to “be together”. But the biggest piece of news that came from this tweet is that there may have been a tiny, tiny hint as to the next name of the major update. In the thank you note on the paper, there was a line that thanked craft services for the “lollipops, marshmallows and Na…”

Now it could have just been a cheeky reference from the Android animators. Or it could actually be a clue that the next update will be named Na…..well, we actually have no idea. It could be salt/sodium. Or it could be nachos. Or even Nori. I guess we’ll find out in a few months. In the meantime, we’re still waiting on our Marshmallows.
