On and on the hype machine goes that will inevitably lead to Samsung launching the Samsung Galaxy S7 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in a few weeks’ time. Meanwhile, the Korean gadget giant wants us to know that along with the flagship launch, there are a few things we should watch out for as well – like Samsung Pay finally coming to the UK.
This announce comes straight from Nathalie Oestmann, Head of Samsung Pay Europe. She said that Samsung’s own proprietary mobile payment system will be “coming to the UK and Spain very soon this year”. The exact date was not part of the announcement, with Samsung saying that more details will be announced “at MWC in a few weeks’ time”.
Samsung Pay directly competes with Apple Pay, which launched in the UK in July last year. With almost a year’s head start, Samsung might struggle to compete with Apple’s payment system, and it’s about time they started catching up. Samsung Pay will work at almost any payment card terminal that accepts it, as it saves your credit and debit card details on the phone itself to make payments.
As of the moment, Samsung Pay is a feature on Samsung’s flagship devices – the Galaxy S6, the Galaxy S6 Edge+, S6 Edge, the S6 Active, and the Galaxy Note 5. No doubt, the upcoming Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will have this as well.
