One of the biggest issues about gaining root access to your phone is that it is such a hassle when you have to install over-the-air (OTA) updates either from Android, your carrier, or your device’s manufacturer. These updates usually require stock settings – no root access, stock recovery, stock ROM. But legendary developer Chainfire might just have a solution for us now.
The software is called FlashFire, and it was developed for a reason – to manage and easily flash full firmware images and update ZIP files without having to go to recovery mode. The latest updates have breathed a fresh new life on the software, it seems – aside from being compatible with Android Marshmallow and having “system-less” root, FlashFire can now restore an original boot.img, flash your OTA package, and then re-root the new boot.img.
It can even back up your original boot.img so you don’t have to. So what we’re saying here is that if you want to root a Nexus device (or many other devices), and still be able install new updates as they roll out, FlashFire will do that for you. How cool is that?
So if you want to check out the new versions, Chainfire has posted about version 0.26 and 0.27 in separate posts (linked below). You can also go to the official XDA thread to get an idea of the feedback about the new versions.
