The Internet is famous for creating weird “holidays” like International Pizza Day or National Don’t Wear Pants to Work Day or other silly thing that brands or just people bored with their lives create. But when it’s Facebook that declares that February 4 is Friends Day, then the more than 500 million who have signed up for the social network probably pay attention and celebrates along with them. This year, to celebrate, Facebook has created Friends Day videos for all its users.
When you opened your Facebook page today, you probably saw a box that says click to watch your Friends Day video and you saw a cute short video that put together some of your best moments with friends over the past years. They didn’t really explain the algorithm that they used to choose the photos, but of course you can edit the photos included (in case there are some pictures there that you don’t want others to see) and then share them when you’re finally satisfied.
February 4 is actually Facebook’s 12th anniversary and aside from the Friends Day video, the social media giant chose to celebrate it this year by inviting 18 members of the Facebook community who had incredible stories where Facebook had something to do with it. They were invited to go to the Menlo Park HQ of Facebook where they got to meet Mr. Mark Zuckerberg himself, among others.
And lastly, what is Friends Day without new sticker packs? Facebook released two new ones called “Best Friends” and “Friendship” and of course they’re free to download through the Sticker Store in Messenger. And if you feel like sharing the Friends Day video Facebook made for you, use the hashtag #friendsday.
