Fitness wearable pioneer Fitbit has announced a new product, just a month after unveiling its Fitbit Blaze at the CES in January. The Alta is a simpler and more fashion-conscious band that gives you the standard activity tracking features but with a minimal screen and interchangeable bracelets with more color options. While Blaze infinitely can do more for you, if all you want to do is track your sleep, runs, walks, etc, then you might want to settle for something simpler and cheaper like the Alta.
Most Fitbit devices can do what the Alta can and that is to track basics like how many steps you took, what exercise you’re doing, how many calories you’re burning, tracking your sleep patterns, reminding you to move every once in a while, and yes, even basic smartphone notifications. What is new with this device is Fitbit’s SmartTracker, which actually recognizes when your exercise has begun, what kind you’re doing, and automatically tracks and record your details.
The Alta looks nice too, which might convince those who are holding out on getting a wearable, just because they don’t look fashionable. This new one looks like a nice bracelet and the rubberized band is available in four colors that you can interchange, depending on your outfit or you’re mood. You have black, blue, plum, and teal. There will also be leather bands and stainless steel options, but they’re more expensive of course.
The Fitbit Alta is priced at $130, the rubberized bands at $30 each, while the leather is at $60, and the stainless steel at $100. The official website is already accepting pre-orders while some retailers are also offering pre-sale starting tomorrow. The US release is this March while the global release will be sometime April.
