The OnHub Router is said to be Google’s another entry attempt into our homes. It works with the OnHub Router companion app and we discovered that it runs on Chrome OS. The original OnHub Router that was manufactured by TP-Link soon got another version made by ASUS. Over the holidays, nice-looking interchangeable shells were released to cover the router.
We have no idea how many households are already using the special router but it has potential to become more popular this year as we’re expecting smart home technology to expand. Google recently made some updates by adding the new ‘Guest Wi-Fi with Device Sharing’ feature.
This OnHub Router update allows the user to set up a separate network for guests to access. You can easily create a new one and share passwords to allow guests to access various networked devices at home. Guests need to have the Google On App so they can access your Chromecast or any other device over your local WiFi network.
Google describes the OnHub as a router “built for all the ways you Wi-Fi”. It works best with your Chromecast, WiFi-enable speakers, or any other devices that makes use of Google Weave, Bluetooth, and 802.15.4 protocols. It functions as the “central brain” of your gadgets at home. This OnHub Router is also expected to to advance Google Brillo–Google’s platform for the “internet of things”.
