While there are still only several devices that support the USB Type-C connectivity, industry people are still saying that it will be the future. And as always, Sony wants to be part, even slightly ahead, of that future. They have now announced that they are releasing a whole new line of USB Type-C flash drives that actually can also be connected in the more “traditional” Type A slots. So it means these flash drives can be connected to almost anything that has either of the two types, including Android, Windows, Macs, and Chromebooks.
Sony specifically designed these brand new flash drives to work with whatever mobile device you have. Type-A is still the “regular” kind that most laptops use while Type C is connected to some newer devices, like the new MacBook, the Nexus 6P and some other devices. It has dual connectors housed in a sleek metal design and compact size. It’s available in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB variants.
In terms of transfer speeds, you can expect better than the older ones from USB Type-A devices. The new line will bring you 130MB/s so transferring heavy files should be a cinch. To use it with an Android device, you would need a file browsing app, and there are several available in the Google Play Store. But it will only work with those running Android 5.0 and above.
There are no price and availability details from Sony yet and even the specific release date is just somewhere within this month. Let’s just wait for further details in the next few days.
