It’s been a while since we least heard anything about App Annie but the San Francisco-based business intelligence company and analyst firm`recently published its 2015 Retrospective Report. It’s one long and comprehensive document but highlights tell us that monetization continues to expand the mobile industry and the app ecosystem. App Annie shared some of the highlights from the report and we couldn’t agree more. For one, there’s been really impressive download and revenue growth in emerging markets such as India, Indonesia, Turkey, Mexico, and Vietnam as a result of more devices being shipped to the countries.

Mobile game has continued to evolve as average lifecycle shortened and revenue became less concentrated. Meanwhile, demand for music, video, and dating apps (yes, dating!) became stronger last year which resulted to IAPs or in-app purchases soaring high. Subscriptions for different apps also grew as more and more people demand for exclusive content and became more willing to spend.

As for wearables and TV, these are new categories now we should be keeping an eye on because more publishers could tap into the business. In Japan and India, it’s notable that mobile commerce, ride-sharing, and games become more popular. Total download and usage saw a significant growth in Asia especially.

Comparing Google Play and iOS, the Android downloads grew almost 100% over iOS last year. Download for the latter grew only 20% year on year but revenue doubled as per App Annie. China, US, and Japan certainly contributed to the growth of worldwide iOS revenue.
