If these certain rumors are to be believed, then Taiwanese OEM HTC will supposedly be making not just one but actually two Nexus smartphones for Google. This means they’re back in Google’s good graces since 2014’s HTC Nexus 9 and before that, the first ever Nexus device, the HTC Google Nexus One back in January 2010. This will be good news for the OEM if true, since they are going through a pretty rough patch these past few years.
Last year, Google decided to go with LG for the Nexus 5X and then Huawei for the Nexus 6P. It also marked the first time that Google released two smartphones in the same year, and if the rumors are reliable, then they are also doing so in 2016. But instead of going with two different brands, it looks like they might be looking at just one.
The rumored two smartphones will have a 5-inch screen and the other one a 5.5-inch display. This is also different from Google as the 2015 models were bigger, with the 5X at 5.2-inches while the 6P is 5.7-inches.
HTC has been losing money in its smartphone business and even though both the new flagship, the HTC One M9 and the HTC One A9 have both received good reviews, it still hasn’t translated into good sales. And the analyst who has given out the rumor also said that even if HTC does get this gig, it might be a case of too little too late for the brand.
