With the number of smartphone lines and actual smartphones that Samsung launches every year, you can’t really expect them to make a big splash every time they have to release a new one, especially if they’re available in limited regions only. That’s precisely what happened now as the OEM “quietly” launched the 2016 version of their budget-friendly Galaxy J1 smartphone. In fact, “launched” is a misnomer as the devices actually just suddenly appeared in retail stores in Dubai.
The new version of the entry level smartphone from Samsung was actually being talked about the past few weeks as leaks and renders were making the rounds online. But if we were expecting a semi-huge announcement, then it’s a good thing we weren’t holding our breath. But it’s still all good, if you’re in the market for an entry-level device as a secondary phone or something, and if you live in Dubai, which is the only place where the device is available for now.
The phone may have just a 4.5-inch 480 x 480 pixels display, but it does have Super AMOLED tech. It runs on a quad-core 1.3GHz chipset with Samsung’s own Exynos 3475 SoC powering it. The device only has 1G RAM and 8GB internal storage, which is pretty common for this segment. It has a 5MP main camera, and a 2MP front-facing one, so don’t expect to take broadcast-ready pics and videos.
You will be able to buy the Samsung Galaxy J1 2016 in local electronic stores in Dubai. It costs AED 499 or that’s around $135 if converted. Let’s wait which other countries or regions will have this new device.
