To better understand what people want in an operating system and user interface, Sony launched the Sony Concept for Marshmallow Android program last month so they could learn directly from the users themselves. It was only supposed to last until the end of this week, but they decided to extend it until after the New Year break. They’re also updating the beta program to Marshmallow 6.0.1 which features very slight, maybe unnoticeable changes, but it’s still good to be updated to the latest one.
The build is now under MR1 or Maintenance Release 1 but there are only very few changes from the first one. The icon pack that used to be found in the home settings is now gone, although the “Icon appearance” is still there. What is gone are the three options that were previously included. But other than that, it seems to be the same ole Marshmallow, which should be good if you’re still exploring it and giving feedback on how Sony can improve on it.
And you’ll also have more time to test it out since the program will now be extended until after the Christmas and New Years break. There is no actual specific date yet as to when the trial will end, but suffice to say, the developers believe that things are going well and so they decided not to end it just yet. As to the official arrival of Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the developers also have no idea as to the timeline from Google and the carriers themselves.
For now, those who are using the Sony Concept for Marshmallow Android program should be happy enough that they have been given a few extra weeks to enjoy tinkering around as well as giving feedback to Sony to help improve their software, and maybe they can catch up to their already excellent hardware.
